Spawns nasty chain lightning adds, spread out.

Deals moderate damage to MT and 4000 every few seconds to guy with 2nd highest hit points.

Takes 100% damage all the time, kill adds with all ranged dps you got during that time.

Does evocation every few minutes, taking 200% damage while spawning no adds. Nuke with all cooldowns! Priest shadowfiends will reg about 12k mana. Have shadowpriests go berserk on adds and recharge during evocation period.

Enrages at about 20%, spawning no adds any more. Go wild!

What is needed here, is Good Heal and very much DPS.
One Tank should be Enough, every Damage Dealer should DPS him, and when the Adds Spawn, those.

Ive also Read that he goes Beserk after 12 Minutes. Which will Wipe out your Raid.

But 12 Minutes should be more than enough.

FYI: when you're learning this fight, you'll only have about 2 attempts before you get the arcane respawns inside and outside of his room.

Some more comments that you might find helpful:

1.:
Spread out healers and ranged DD - if you are too clumped the main problem will be the slowing of casts from the AoE damage the adds deal. The damage itself (~600/sec) isn't too much of a problem, but the slowing will have a huge impact on your ability to nuke adds and keep HP up on MT and hateful bolt targets. I can't stress enough just how helpful a good spread has been

Have a warlock cast curse of doom on curator at 1 minute prior to evocation - it will land for massive amounts of damage in evoc phase (~20k)

We were having some issues on this boss with the spread out strategy. So we tried having all the healers and melee clump up just behind the MT (hunters can stand back at min range but need to move up to pack/FD if the flares chase them), and we downed him first go. It makes the fight a shit load more mana efficient, as chain heals come into play alot more. Also interupts aren't as big of an issue as it seems.

We normally have 1 healing priest dedicated on the MT, and a paladin+shaman on the raid/MT if needed.

Our guild has 3 raids going Kara. 2 of them cleared all but Nightbane and Netherspite. All 3 raids go pretty much the same tactic on Curator. The raid i lead usually has:

Warr - MT, Druid - OT/dps, Rogue, Resto Shaman, Holy pala, Holy priest, Mage (me), Hunter, Warlock and the last one is usually either warlock/hunter/retri-pala.

- make a macro: /tar Astral
- no arcane resistance.
- all melee dps on boss all the time.
- all ranged spread so that no two ppl should be taking dmg from adds at a time - 15 yards looks enough.

Adds have ~13k hp. With this setup and spamming the macro to start casting as soon as they're targetable they usually die before they reach any ranged or shortly after. Healers don't heal any ranged - ppl bandage if needed.

If ranged dps have time in between add spawns - drop a DoT or instant on the boss but never choose to dps boss instead of add. Adds are first prio ALWAYS.

From what my observation is - it's better to finish off the last add that spawns right before Evocation phase and then focus dps on the boss for the rest 15sec or so than to let it off loose or tanked by someone. It shortens your dps on the boss during weakened phase but completely avoids havoc and chaos and conserves healers' mana.

Boss enraged on 15% and we usually reach this phase after 3 evocations. Not using distilled wisdom flasks since if everyone is doing what he's supposed to do healers' mana is never a problem.

We do this fight by forming ranks with our raid members. Class balance consists of a priest, a shaman, and a druid healing, a prot tank, an OT, a rogue, a shadow priest, and 3 other ranged dps. All healing is in the same group for mana tides. Our shadow priest is in 160 arcane resist and eats the hateful bolts during the fight, and is kept in the same group with the OT and melee dps for embrace healing. The SP is kept at full health and dps's the boss until the 1st evocate to reach a good distance from the rest of the raid and maintain 2nd on the aggro list. (Not sure at this point if it's aggro, health, or a combination of the 2 that attract the hateful bolts.) After the 1st evocate, the shadow priest then helps to dps the adds.

The shadow priest is on one side of the hallway, with another ranged standing behind him. We try to keep as many adds away from the SP so that he doesn't take alot of damage and it's easy to keep him at full or near full health. The other 2 ranged dps stand on the other side of the hall, spread out from each other to minimize dmg if they pull aggro on an add.

Myself (rogue) and the OT are in minimal arcane resist (80-100) and stand about 20 yards behind the MT. We intercept the adds as they spawn, with the OT trying to be the 1st one to reach them and get off a shield bash to grab aggro. As a rogue, CoS is the best thing in the world for this job, and you should time it's use right as an add reaches you to maximize it's use. The healers stand behind the OT and myself and should never eat any chain lightnings, as we intercept the adds before they can reach them, or ranged pulls aggro and they go to them. The raid focuses all dps on the adds until the evocate and then we switch and burn him hard during that. The goal for each evocate is 30% of his life taken.

At 15% life he will enrage, and his melee attacks get stronger and faster, along with his hateful bolts being sent faster as well. During this our shaman pops bloodlust, and dps pops all their cooldowns and trinkets to get him down that last 15% asap.

As a side note, if he is evocating when he hits 15%, he will instantly stop evocating and enrage, but it is best to get him to his enrage during an evocate as you won't have an add up to deal with and you can focus only on a hard burn.

The Curator requires you to spread out and watch positions because of the chain damaging adds that he spawns. He has two phases, but as one of them is simply "DPS him as much as possible", there's not much difficulty with that. The challenge is mainly his adds.

I'll try to explain the strat my guild uses as best as possible. (I submitted a screenshot to accompany, hopefully it gets approved - Until then - Here is a link to the strat image hosted on another site -- http://i7.tinypic.com/34fl3ko.jpg)

You'll want a 'lock with *some* arcane resist - it doesn't have to be much - but it helps the healers out a little bit. Other than that, nobody needs even the first shred of arcane resist.

After you've cleared the room and are preparing for Curator - enter the room and stand against the wall to the right (as you enter) - Its good to line up along that wall and have everyone ready to get into position. Curator has a HUGE aggro radius so buff up here.

Don't worry about curator heading your way, if your against the wall your JUST out of reach. - The area where he stops, and turns around is where you will want to tank him - facing the group

When you engage him, you'll want 1 dedicated healer on the tank, someone who is mana efficient and is prepared to pop pots every time they're up. Have that healer run up with the tank, and stand to one of the sides of Curator. Your other 2 healers should stay against the 'back wall' and spread themselves out.

Your ranged DPS should split up into 2 groups - Typically we have 4 ranged dps so we put 2 on either 'side' of the room. - 2 at the entrance doorway, and 2 directly across from it. Have your lock move forward enough to curator that he's maybe 20 yards from the tank. (You want to be able to grab a flare off of your MT-healer should the need arise) The goal is to get the lock out there all by his lonesome. He'll be tanking Astral Flares away from everyone. Everyone should be in position seconds from engaging curator.

If the lock wants - he can make a macro for /target astral - the locks job is to spam searing pain, and bring the astral flares into the middle of the room. This way they don't hurt anyone but the lock. The lock can keep this up and you can range the astral flares down before the next one is up. (Your caster/ranged dps should be using quick casts. Scorch spam for mages, etc)

From there on, it turns the fight from frantic, to relatively easy. - Only 1 person (max 2) should be getting hit by astral flares, you can heal the 'lock through the damage, and when curator evocates, make sure you take the last spawned add down FIRST, - THEN dps curator. As long as you have the damage enough to keep the astral flares under control, the fight is ezmode.

Note: Having warlocks throw up curse of doom about 1 min before his evocation, it can hit for 20,000dmg and severely help taking curator down before the 12 min mark. Cooldowns such as mage-pets, arcane power/pom/pyro, etc help as well.

On our kills, a druid off tank works well. For the first spawn, the druid should try to build up hate in bear form so he stays #2 on hate. Then try to stand a little distance away from the curator and then use maul +mangle to grab aggro on the flare. During evocates, switch to cat form and hit whatever trinkets you have and get a 5 combo point bite. Druid should be in DPS gear with a a little bit of arcane resistance to help with mitigation.

Probably the easiest fight in all of Kara. All you need, is 1 Shadow Priest.

Everyone else does what they always do, MT tanks Curator, everyone DPS's adds, except your priest. Keep the priest in the same group with the healers, they will have an endless supply of mana and HP. 2 healers is plenty to keep the MT full as well as everyone in the raid...

Basically, the priests job is to keep VE/VT/SWP up the entire fight and just Mindflay, he/she stays on the curator the ENTIRE fight. When the Curator Evocates (probably on the second evocate since the first everyone will still have plenty of mana and HP) on that second evocate the priest drops ALL their CD's/Trinkets. Start Mindblasting and SWD'ing (careful of SWD, it hits for 5k during evocate) the Curator, it will bring everyone in your party back up to full mana/HP. The curator should be below 50% at that point, so you might be able to get to a 4th Evocate and just drop all your CD's again, put 2 poppable trinkets on and alternate popping them between Evocates.

Also have your priest downrank his MindFlay and SWP (2 ranks down worked for me) and that should prevent the need for potting and whatnot. If they are really good they can put the downranked version on their bar and then use the full rank spell during evocate.

From what I saw The Curator does his Hateful Bolts on #2 in the agro list, because as the Shadow Priest, I was getting Hateful Bolts every like 15-30 seconds, and requiring heals... What works to fix this, is having your offtank run up to Curator and build rage when there are no adds up. Our druid would run up and do his druid agro thing a couple times a minute and that was enough to keep the druid in second and I didn't get but like 2 hateful bolts the entire fight, and you can be assured I was always topped off in HP because of VE.

There may be something about The Curator always hitting the highest HP person, but all I can tell you is once the druid started taking the #2 spot, I stopped getting hateful bolts altogether. If your priest gets those bolts your raid can just heal through it if you want, but it is also rather dangerous to have the priest #2 on the agro list anyway, you can heal through them but if the priest accidentally pulls agro once and dies the fight gets considerably harder.

Key to this fight is the flares. Burn them fast fast fast. If you get 2-3 flares running around you're in bad shape. You basically want to get them down as the next spawns or faster. Once he's at 20% they aren't an issue anymore and it's all out DPS at that point. :)

Contrary to the opinion that's seemingly popular, a rogue is definately good for this fight! :) We'd previously subbed out rogues for caster DPS, as the strategy having us in middle trying to kill flares would almost make us useless.

Perfect strat I believe is 1 tank and a rogue with AR as OT (taking the bolts) ; uninterrupted DPS and sits us there at the Evo :)

I've looked at posted strategies here, and at WoWwiki. For maximizing my DPS, as a Warlock, it has been suggested that I use my Curse of Doom at the One Minute mark before Evocate. Approximately how long does The Curator go from engaged to evocation and full mana to no mana?

Our raid group on Cenarion Circle HATES Curator. Easy kill but that 29.9% drop rate on the Shaman / Pally / Rogue gloves is BULL, we've gotten 6 times in a row, we don't even expect any of the other ones at this point.

Basic strat: Clear his hall, put main healer on one side, off healer on the other with everyone else and pull the adds away from the MH, tank him in the middle. 3 Melee on the adds is perfect, group config we have is Dagger Rogue, Sword Rogue, Bear Druid and sometimes a Hunter. The casters go on adds, especailly after evoc so they're threat on Curator can drop a bit.

Adds are key here, if they build up it's bad, you never want two up at the same time. Arcane Resist really helps when you're first learning the fight and whoever is on adds can NOT go on curator until the last add is down when he evocs. When he enrages the adds stop, MT needs to be kept up and if there's an add up kill it, then nuke Curator. You're going to want him down before 4th evoc or he'll enrage after 12 min.

Edit: An OT with good arcane resist should try and stay second on the aggro list to soak up the Hateful bolts. A warlock with good stam gear can take them too... and I've done so because my aggro shoots way past the OT after the first evoc, they hurt though so I tend ot stay on the left by the door so I can duck off behind the pillar and bandage then switch completely to adds until the next evoc and hope the OT can get back to 2nd.

Our DPS warrior puts on some arcane resist and act as an OT while laying on the dmg.

When u encounter The Curator u should have atleast one warlock och one shadow priest with you. Simply because one dps on The Curator in the whole encounter does very much.. I would recommend a raid group with following classes:

1 tank
3 healers
4 ranged dps ( one of em on the curator all the time, pref shadow priest or warlock)
2 melee dps (1 rogue, 1 feral druid)

And after a couple of mins, u will loot t4 gloves and something else =)

If you are melee-heavy, don't fuss about the spreading out. We've found that a melee-heavy dps run can just stand in one pack, 10 yeards or so behind the tank, and rapid kill any adds that spawn. Use Concentration aura in the healer party and a shadow priest to keep them topped up.

What extra damage you do take from the arcing sear is compensated for by the speed of killing with having you melee dps concentrated near your casters.

My "casual" guild has downed Curator many times now. We struggled with him a number of times and tried just about every variation of every published guide and comment we found. If your guild is having trouble keeping up with the adds, especially in later evocates, don't make the mistake of saying "not enough dps on adds." Instead, consider the following:

If you take the Curator into the 3rd and 4th evocates, your raid is going to most likely run out of mana (healers and especially damage dealers). You'll start dying one by one due to "lack of dps on the adds." Your goal is to not let him live that long.

Only a portion of the arcane damage you take (about 50%) is resistable. I'm a shadow priest and I can get up to 297 arcane resist with a druid's mark of the wild without really gimping my stats. I never resist more than 50% damage, regardless of how high I take my arcane resistance. Having that much resist only seems to stop all spell interrupts, so a soul cloth set *could* be worth it for Mind Flays and similar channeled spellcasts (especially during evocates -- see below). It is my recommendation that your guild creates a Cloak of Arcane Evasion with the arcane resistance enchant for each raid member. That, plus a druid's mark will bring you close to resisting 20-25% damage without gimping damage-dealing stats.

Don't bother having someone try to tank the adds. Your success in doing so will be very limited, and you'll just take that much more damage with the constant bridging of sparks between your tank and the ranged folks. Argue with me all you want; I've changed a lot of people's minds by proving them wrong. Your raid will take much less damage if you just leave them untanked.

Place all melee players on the Curator (up to 3). The melee players form a triangle, spreading out as much as possible around the Curator whilst still maintaining melee range. These players keep sustained damage, feigning, etc throughout Curator's normal phase. When he evocates, they unload all damage and cooldowns. He ignores aggro during evocate, so there's no risk of stealing aggro -- just unload. This should go without saying, but the only melee person with a shield should be the MT -- go damage gear folks!

All healers are at 6 o'clock, max range from the MT. One uses heal over times to keep the raid alive, the others heal the MT. Try to limit your use of any fast-heals as they aren't efficient.

All spell-casters and hunters (no pets here) are spread out between the healers and melee (think checkerboard pattern), downing adds. If you have a warlock or shadow priest, tell your raid to down adds to 20-25% then move to the next one. The DOTs from either of these classes will be enough to finish off the adds.

All adds spawn by the Curator and go for a random person for a few seconds. The entire raid should be spread out so that only one person takes spark damage at any given time.

For Shadow Priests:
I place all healers and extra mana users in my group. I keep Vamp Touch, Vamp Embrace, and SW:Pain on the Curator at all times in the fight. I SW:Pain each add as it spawns. I then watch the add's health and finish it off with Mind Blast and SW:Death when they're available (I have Spirit Tap and get the bonus in mana regen each time). When the Curator is about to evocate, I renew my Vamp Embrace on him, cast SW:Pain, and cast my Vampirc Touch so it lands right as his Evocate starts. I then unload on the Curator throughout Evocate via Mind Blast and Mind Flay, regen'ing a large amount of mana to my raid's healers and health to myself (you'll aggro every add in the room when you unload). *Here's where that high arcane resist comes into play* You'll resist almost all the spell interrupts and can mind flay to your heart's content if you have that higher resist (soul cloth set and an arcane evasion cloak).

Do the above, and he'll die after the second evocate.

i am a rogue with 410 ar ... i done curator many times and was OTing curator is a cake if u got a ar soaker.... for me i spend more then 2k of gold making Soulcloth vest , enchanted clefthoof set , and trinket rings and neck .....down curator many times with a rogue soaker rmb 2nd aggro = being soaked ... got 10 k hp unbuff so healers go easy on me
astral hits me for only 20-100 most of the time fully resist , hateful bolts hits me for 400-1,2k nv seen any that went up more then 1.2k the healers just havce to hot ....

AR set = Prince quest reward trinket(45) , rep trinket from KoT , enchanted cleft hoof set with 7 gems of hit rating and agi to cover up my loss in soaking gear (gloves, pants,boot) (100), soulcloth vest with 2 void spheres and +12 stam(53),cloak of arcane evasion +15ar ench on it(47) , decent green helm with +20ar on it (enchant from shatar rep) (55), green lvl 70 shoulders + scyers exalted enchant (27),crafted rings and neck from JCer(60) ..., a green ring boe (23)

currently i am still improving my ar gears but 410 is a feat +i got lotsa stam from glads epic and pvp epics therefore curator will be easy like this

Many ppl have said that you can't tank the adds. Whilst they are immune to taunt, they can be quite easily tanked. I am a feral tank, and my job during this fight is to control the adds while the warrior tanks. I wear full cat style dmg gear, with the addition of some arcane res gear (my arc res is ~200 without gimping), but do it in bear form.

When the adds spawn they head straight for a random player like they already have aggro. I run in and intercept them. Getting the aggro back is only possible by causing fast dmg, i.e. Mangle. The trick is this: make sure your Mangle CD is ready for the next add spawning. As the CD on Mangle is 6 secs and the adds spawn every 10, you can only use mangle once per add. Use it as your first attack as you intercept it. Do not be tempted to use it again on the same add. 9/10 times you will get the aggro from the add straight away by doing this, then just walk back to the center area so no ranged DPS are being hit by the adds at all. If a new add spawns when an old one is still up, run and get the new one, while dps finishes off the old one.

By doing this the healing required to keep the raid up is much much less than other methods. Then all you need is DPS to pwn the adds and DPS to pwn the boss :-)

Despite all of the complicated analysis and strategy posted here, this fight is actually a fairly simple gear check.

The flares have 12,000 health and spawn every 10 seconds. The Curator himself has 690,000 heath and must die in 12 minutes. So, to win this fight, your raid must output 1,200 damage per second to take down the flares and an additional 960 damage per second to actually kill the Curator (with help from Evocation and ignoring the flare-less enrage segment).

So, you need 2,160 total raid DPS to win.

You also need enough healing output and arcane resist to keep up with all the damage output from the flares, bolts, and blows.

Damage output is diffuse in this fight, with few major spikes. If someone dies, it means that you don't have the healing output to keep up.

If your raid has enough gear and consumables to keep up with these requirements, this is an easy fight. If your raid doesn't have the raw power, this fight is impossible, plain and simple. It doesn't matter how good your players are.

If, after one or two practice attempts, you find that you have two flares up at the same time, or someone dies early, don't keep trying. Having two flares at once is a sign that the math will not allow you to win this fight. Leave, and come back later with better gear, gems, elixirs, flasks, and enchants.

If you are like me, an affliction warlock that basically doesn't have any up front damage aside from 1k-1.3k shadowbolts, you can tank the bolts from curator if your guild agrees with it. I asked about doing it one night and had absolutely no problem staying in 2nd place for aggro. One thing to make sure is that you don't get too close to the tanks aggro, which would obviously shake threat and possibly make curator come one shot you. Also, if you want to use Improved Curse of Doom when Curator evocates, try and put it down when curator is at about 400 thousand mana. Atleast, im pretty sure it was 400k. Mightve been 40k, wasn't there for the last Curator kill.

The Arcane Resist gear really helps too, you take alot less damage from the bolts and you should still have the dps to stay in second.

Druid healing tip

Help all your fellow healers at their tasks in the beginning only.MT heal OT heal and Party heal.

Before Evocation number one use Innervate.Thus you will have your cooldown again later at a crucial point.

I ve tested this several times and you save at least 2 mana pots plus you save mana from your collegues.You finish the battle with 3-4ks mana.

P.S use your trinkets ALL THE TIME.it's a looong fight(may it be your first one, good luck!)

no need to waste 1-2 seconds moving th pointer to target the adds.

Also DeadlyBossMod can help to know EXACTLY when the curator will start doing his evocation.

My guild attempted this guild...Curator is basically the guy thats preventing us from progression. It seems we're doing fine until he pops out of the 2nd evo. Thats when adds get out of hand, casters and healers run out of mana. Anyone have suggestions?

What we did for hateful bolts is have the lock with 210 arcane resistance (from arcanoweave and soulcloth gloves) siphon life and drain life, which targeted him for hateful bolts. They hit for around 2k average. Drain life and sphion life put him on argo list and heals him, so it works well. Downed him on second attempt (first attempt with this stratagey). We did no dps during normal phase, and nuked during evocation. The lock could even life tap every now and then, but i would recomend having dark pact as well.

Curator is an easy fight if you do it right. We have all DPS classes, except shadow priest, take down the flares as fast as possible. After he summons his 10 flares he goes into an Evocation period, during this evocation period, his damage taken is increased by like 150% or something, a little before he goes into his evocation we get a lock to cast Curse of Doom on him. This will hit for about 72k, sometimes 80+k if amp'd and trinketed. Melee dps start attacking him as soon as he goes into evocation and let ranged DPS finish off the flare, he does the evocation 2-3 times during the fight. Just remember to cast the Curse of Doom at the right time to get some CrAzY damage. Good luck, gratz on the tier 4.

*We usually form a line, it works really well! Umm..
Ranged dps and Healers stand against the wall (The one to your right when you first enter). It's usually moi and they put a diamond on my head to make sure ranged dps/healers "See" it, and "STAND on it at all times" Don't move for anything, even if a spark comes for you.
*About 10-15 yards in front of them is the spark team, they're positioned here to ensure (most of the time) that the sparks never reach the ranged dps/healer team. They beat them down before they get there with the help of the ranged dps types (Still not moving ranged-dps-types that is!).
*Then about 10-15 yards in front of them is the main tank and (If the bolt soaker is melee) The bolt soaker.
So it's ... if this works...

It's the single most successful strategy I've used. When we've used that strategy, he's gone down in a single attempt every single time. When I've been in raids with other strategies, he's been a lot more troublesome. We'd wipe at least twice unless we were overgeared anyway.

Details? Well, if you insist:

One tank on the Curator. Just hold on to him.

One healer on the tank. One healer with group heals on the rest of the raid. One spot healer to top off whoever needs it (usually Hateful Bolt victims). All healers take care of the tank when the Curator enrages at 15%. You may be able to get away with two healers if you have a Shadow Priest.

Everyone else, attack the Flares. You may attack the Curator only when there are no Flares up. I don't care if he's Evocating. Kill the damn Flares in whatever way is fastest for your character. Set up a macro: "/targetexact Astral Flare". Hit it whenever a Flare spawns, then kill the Flare. Use your damage-boost cooldowns right before the Evocation, so you can kill the last Flare faster and spend more time hitting the Curator for triple damage.

That's it. Just kill the Flares.

What Not to Do

There are several things that sound like good ideas, but turn out hurt more than they help. So:

Don't assign a Hateful Bolt soaker. Just kill the Flares.

Don't wear arcane resistance gear. Wear your maximum DPS gear and just kill the Flares.

Don't attempt to tank the Flares. Just kill them.

Don't attack the Curator immediately when he Evocates. Kill the the last Flare first. Yes, yes, I know you're missing out on some triple damage by doing this. I know the fight will last that much longer. Kill the Flare anyway.

Don't assign complex positions. Tell people to move wherever they need to go to kill the Flares. If people insist on positions, have them bunch up in melee range behind the Curator so the melee damage-dealers don't have to waste time running to catch up with the Flares.

The reason to avoid these tricks is that they all get in the way of killing the Flares faster.

Why it Works

Here's why this strategy works: The faster you kill the Flare, the sooner it stops hurting your raid and stops interrupting your casters. You don't have to heal as much, and you get more time to damage the Curator before the next Flare. Also, this strategy is easy enough that nobody is going to mess it up. It's that simple.

Just.

Kill.

The.

Damn.

Flares.

Just a side note, a deep arcane spec mage can be very useful in this fight as the Astral Flares ARE NOT immune to arcane spells. a mage with 100 AR can almost single handedly take out the last flare while the rest of the dps go nuts on curator when evocating. Really just saying that you don't have to be a fire or frost mage to do dps, my fireballs hit curator for a good 8k and twice that on a crit.

From our experience, the Curator does not Hateful Bolt the person with the highest current HP other than the tank.

When watching KTM (threat meter), the person receiving the Hateful Bolts is always at 2nd or 3rd place in threat. KTM isn't perfect, so it's possible that the person shown in 3rd place was actually 2nd in threat. In any case, the 2nd and 3rd spots were always close.

The people receiving the bolts were not always fully healed, nor were they often the people with the highest HP.

We're not certain that the Hateful Bolt targeting is based on threat alone, but it certainly appears that way from our experiences in Karazhan. We can verify, however, that it is not based on the highest HP other than the MT.

Curator is pretty hard on a mutilate rogues since his adds and him are both immune to poisons and if you try to backstab for the fight you won't be doing as much because you wont be critting as much. (This comment doesn't really have anything to do with previous comments made just thought I'd throw this out there)

When I'm not running my lock through Kara, I'm usually on my DPS warrior (Arms/Fury hybrid with a Lionheart Blade, 2h Sword spec). My question is specifically on how a dps warrior is supposed to handle these adds, since they are immune to Taunt and Challenging Shout, and move out of my melee range to go smack my healers around before I can get a high-threat ability (Heroic Strike) off. Mocking Blow works, but that's not practical for use as it's on a two-minute timer. I'm wondering if my slow but heavy burst damage is enough for this, or whether I should try dual-wield Fury instead for faster and steadier damage instead.

In my experience, afflict locks are better used to arcane tank the curator. The dots don't do much damage on the adds since all dps will be focusing on them, they will last two or three ticks at most. Locks should equip arcane res gear and dot curator. I didn't try building aggro on the adds but it can probably be done by a well timed SoC on the boss.

Although curator is mechanical, drain life works on him, so the lock will not need much healing to tank the bolts and the adds with enough arcane resistance. (I used to tank him with ~200 arcane res and didn't need much healing)

As a rogue I find much more useful to stay on the curator the whole fight. But you can only do this if the rest of the raid can handle the adds. If they can, the fight goes so much faster.

Save your big dps cooldowns for the evocation phase. I can spank him with multiple HUGE backstabs using adrenaline rush during the phase. I was hitting for 6500-7000k a pop (crits).

If you find you need to help with adds, I would still peal off for the first evocation phase, so that you wallop him for a while. And then go bank on the adds.

IMHO, rogues running around killing the adds, just sucks healer mana dry because of the aoe from the flares.

My guild uses some rather unconventional tactics, but ever since we dropped the "spread out" strategy we've one shotted Curator each week.

The "spread out" strategy had several problems that simply didn't make it worth the effort for my guild. The list is as follows.

Issue 1: Pinball

Whatever caster has the flare on them isn't likely to get any spells off. As such, aggro was bouncing around everywhere and very few people were able to maintain consistent dps on the flares. At the same time this made everything more complicated for the healers.

Issue 2: Pickup

With everyone spread out, it became difficult to pick up the flares. Many casters would be out of range until the Flare had already been "live" for 3-4 seconds, and it was tough for melee to predict where the flares would be going. The resulting chaos meant that flares were living much longer than they should have, and people (particularly melee) were taking significantly more damage than otherwise necessary. This was especially bad when the flares' initial aggro was on healers.

Issue 3: Chaining

We also found that having just one melee chasing flares was enough to invalidate the benefit of spreading out. They would invariably chain the spell between people, making spreading out rather pointless.

Issue 4: Breakdown

Lastly, spreading out only lasted so long. Ranged classes invariably nudged forward towards Curator to make up for range issues, bringing them closer to each other. Healers similarly would move about to make sure they were in range of the tank, the bolt soaker, and the rest of the raid. In short, however pretty we looked before we started our formation would degrade over time to the point of uselessness, all while maintaining the myriad of disadvantages the strategy presented. As such, we decided it wasn't worthwhile.

New Strategy: Group Hug

Instead, we clump all the ranged DPS on the left side together, all the healers on the right side together, and face Curator to the right. The DPS cluster stands close enough to Curator to pick up Flare spawning on the far side without moving. The results we've obtained from this strategy have been phenomenal.

Because the flares are now very predictable, it is extremely easy for all DPS, melee or ranged, to start hitting them as soon as they spawn. Thus, they die faster and do less damage despite the large clumps. Flares only reach healers rarely, if ever. There's no reason for anyone to worry about moving or chaining either.

The only time we've had any issue with our new strategy was one week when we had a significant number of new raiders who didn't follow through on the basic principle of "Flares Die First", and were horrifically slow to start DPSing flares (I suspect they didn't set up the macros as instructed). Despite the mayhem, we still one shot Curator.

If you have boss mods that show timers for evocate tell a warlock to use amplify curse and curse of doom roughly 1 minute before an evocate. We used this technique, needless to say the damage was massive but he was not a happy bunny with our warlock.

A simple method to use is to keep 1 tank on him, let the healers heal, and all dps focus on the balls. When he does evocation, hit him hard. If you keep repeating this, it can be easily done.(as i found out last night)

Besides "Kill the flares," if one of your dpsers is a paladin or warrior, Righteous Fury and Defensive stance in full dps gear, and just make sure you get the first big hit in for aggro, aka save your MS/BT/Judgement. While they are immune to taunt, they *do* have aggro. Put your ranged and casters at 40 yards, stand at 10-15 and pick up every flare. Your casters don't lose cast time to damage, and thus flares die more quickly, people are healed more efficiently, and it's overall a much smoother operation.

During Evocation he is stationary and stops attacking.

As a Feral tank, I was heartily amused when I could switch to Cat form, and start Shredding him up from behind (while power shifting like a madman). This, and my ability to constantly attack the same target has allowed me to reach #1 on the damage meters for the Curator fight (flares included) multiple times!

Just be sure you have Deadly Boss Mods or a similar addon that tells you when he is about to drop Evocate, so you know when to switch back to Bear (or watch his mana bar!). Remember, one crush in Cat form is going to do you alot more harm then a 5 point Ferocious Bite crit will do you good.

Additionally, if you are nimble with your fingers and anticipating Hurtful Bolt (while you are MT) you have enough time to Innervate a healer and shift back before being hit. I suggest against it - if your healers want an Innervate, tell them to wait until Evocation.

Did this last night with 2 priest healers 7 DPS (druid OT changed to cat for this fight and our pally brought his hunter alt) and a warrior tank.

had all dps stand bunched behind curator (to give max time before sparks reach dps). melee near curator and ranged at max range. (bunching up means sparks always travel in the same direction so melee dont have to chase. This will only work if you can kill the sparks before they reach the casters otherwise the sparks do too much damage to the raid)

1 healer to look after the tank and 1 to look after the raid. both droping their fiends during evocation to regenerate mana (full mana regen during evocation)

sparks were dying very quickly due to the amount of dps. once 10th spark is dead there was about 10 secons left on evocation and dps managed to get about 35% of curators health down in that time

enrage occured half way thru the 3rd evocation. shield wall from the tank to reduce damage from enrage and he went down easy.

after trying many different tactics listening to advice from other groups that have done it and not managing to kill him this turned out to work fairly easy for our group makeup.

Although it's essential for spreading out and killing the flares uppermost when they came for the starter raid guilds, it's better for high-level raid groups to stick all together and hit the Curator all the times, while only one person is enough to kill the flares. The Curator will usually go down after or even within the first Evocation this way.

We just downed him last night and here is our strategy-
1. Keep Melee dps on the sparks the whole fight.
2. Only range dps attack him during evocation.
3. The tank,tanking him will tank him in between the first pillars.
4. All heals and dps except healer on tank will be at 3 pillar.
Some more tips-
Burst damage like ret pallies for example can really do some damage during evocation if they use avenging wrath and have vengeance X 3 on them (all ret pallies shoulod be able to do this).
Have a paladin healer on tank,tanking him,much more helpful since our paladin healer,healed him while our druid and priest could heal melee dps on the Sparks and could throw a heal to the tank once in a while.
Also very helpful to get to him-
PULL THE ADDS (The big voidwalker like things that are white) INTO THE ROOM BEFORE HIS ROOM. We wiped 3 ties before i suggested this

Curator has a 12 minute (720 second) time-limit within which he must be killed.

Calculating roughly the minimum DPS needed for this boss:
He has 690,000 hp that needs to be "dps-ed" over 720 seconds. That means 958,3 dps over 720 seconds (for the curator alone)

Adds with 13,000 hp are spawned each 10 seconds. Meaning 72 adds over 720 seconds, 72 adds have 936,000 hp when summed up. 936,000 hp over 720 seconds is 1300 dps.

1300dps+958dps=2258dps. Constant stream of 2258dps is roughly the bare minimum for this boss.

A warning, since it has only been mentioned as part of a large post before - the Curator has a MASSIVE aggro radius!
The final trash pull in his room should be done as he walks away, and pulled when he goes around the corner. When fighting, fight either in the previous room or hugging th back wall - any closer than a few steps and your guild will never forgive you!

And yes, pulling him when hes near a trash mob pulls it too. Oops :(

My guild normally dps with ranged Curator, instead of dpsing with melee, and melee kill adds. This way healers dont have to heal so much. I prefer this strategy, but it's your choice.

However, it is soloable as a ret pally. I used seal of light and judgement of light to start off, made sure sparks died and used instant flashes whenever I wasn't at 100%. When evo time came around, I swapped to martyr and pushed him to 15%. Then I hit bubble and killed him before it wore off to negate the 15% enrage.

Soloed as a blood-tank DK. The Curator is immune to disease but the astral sparks are not. The trick is to death strike the sparks until an evocation... then go balls out on curator until evo is over. I popped army of the dead at 16% to burn him down before he could kill me with the enrage.

Soloed as prot/fury (glyphed into bloodthirst) with 226/232/245 gears.

First attempt : 0 arcane res, its damage is unhealable. Second attempt : 157 arcanes res with 2 greens and a flask, I can tank all the damage no prob, but I died on enrage. I had to kill the sparks first and cleave on the boss, you won't be able to side-cleave the sparks because it wont die in 10 seconds. The only two problems I saw here : I was rage starbed on evocations, you should keep a spark alive for rage generation but it wont be enough. Second prob was that you need to save all your CDs for last 15%. I don't know if I got unlucky but I found myself getting hit a lot by his physical attacks with near 50% avoidance.. On third attempt I saved Shield Wall and my enraged regeneration was ready. It's a long fight ( around 8-9 minutes).

Just solo'd as a protection paladin. After several agonizing defeats (50k, 17k) at the enrage (astral deconstruction) I decided to change something slightly. I equipped a DPS one hand (Nighttime) and chugged a flask of chromatic wonder as others have suggested. I did manage to beat Astral Deconstruction by about 20sec. Rather annoying, but I can finally move on to the other bosses.

Stats:
35k health
25.5k armour
24% dodge
17% parry
10.2% block
35 arcane resistance

Small tip for DKs having even the slightest ammount of trouble beating him:

When you are in need of Death Strike healing, equip the weakest 1 hand weapon you can find (perfectly a starting zone gray 1h for example) and use that to apply your diseases on the Astral Flares, that way you should have no danger of killing them before geting in at least 1 Death Strike. Once Curator is about to go into evocation, simply re-equip your strongest Dps weapon and smack him about.

With this method the fight became trivially easy for me, also I saved all my cds for his low health enrage and just nuked him down without any further healing needed.

Solo'd as a BM Hunter as of 4.0.

Used a spirit beast pet and healed myself using it's healing ability. Otherwise easy fight, pet focused on boss and I focused on the arcane sparks.

Someone earlier said that he's no longer immune to poisons, but that isn't the case. He's still immune; even Shiv wouldn't make it stick. I managed to solo him as a mutilate rogue at 85 using Recuperate and Rupture, but I can't say I enjoyed it.

For some inexplicable reason this became unsoloable by an arcane mage in 4.2. It's immune to damage. It was perfectly viable in 4.1.

edit: It is doable on the fire spec. I guess it became immune to arcane damage.

Using a turtle as the "Go-To" tenacity pet, I find it easy to solo (duo really) all of the old content as an appropriately-spec'ed Marksmanship Hunter.

I advise the use of Glyph of Mending and Glyph of Misdirection as two critical Major Glyphs, the other choices are yours to make.

As has been previously mentioned, The Curator isn't easy, but it's not hard.

Misdirect your (tenacity) pet, and Steady-Shot and Aimed Shot like there's no tomorrow! The Astral Flares are harmless, so you can ignore them until The Curator is dead. Remember that he's immune to Hunter's Mark, Serpent Sting, and Arcane Shot (this is why it takes slightly longer than most bosses).

As my Arcane Mage I got quite a shock. I was up against an Arcane immune boss who could evocate just like me. Obviously it can be done which is why I am posting here.

1) Clear the room. Be conservative. The Curator has a long patrol path so you have plenty of opportunity to pull the mob groups one by one.

2) During the fight he will be immune to your damage. He will slowly wear you down but your pre-MoP gear will mean that he makes noticeable but slow progress. You will need to do healingevocations. See Charred Glyph. He will not interrupt it.

3) Before the fight get your (sub optimal) frost and fire abilities onto a hot bar. Hit him with these. Blizzard will be nice to take down his helpers as they spawn.

4) When he evocates you have your big chance. I got through possibly three of these. Timewarp and all your other bells and whistles. He seemed to turn a shade of blue at the time and you could see his mana bar moving as well.

Not much else we can do. Job done, albeit very slowly.

After this fight, much worse awaits you in the Guardian's Library IF you do happen to aggro the mobs. The sheer weight of the Arcane immune mobs in the room will unfortunately wear you down. Be careful. Ensure your Invisibility is off cool down. Save your Blink for when you are desperate (just before you go invisible).

Now very difficult to solo as an Arcane Mage due to the ability pruning. Only two of your abilities will do damage to the boss: Cone of Cold, and Frost Nova. Only other way to harm him is through auto-attacking. Even your Mirror Images will not help you (they stand around being useless).

Dual Spec to Fire or Frost for this boss strongly recommended.

I was soloing Karazhan on my arcane mage and totally forgot he is immune to arcane damage. I used Cone of Cold and stood there slightly confused. Then I remembered I had mega blast rockets from my engineer's study and it one-shot him.
I could have also killed him with my shadow-damage wand :P

FYI - The Curator is immune to ARCANE attacks. I took my lvl 100 arcane mage in to solo Kara and couldn't hurt him even when the flares were down. Turns out, you have to use frost or fire spells. Or just whack him with a stick.
